THE DAKAR JACKET - PREVIEW

Our small capsule Spring/Summer Desert Collection is beginning to take shape. We have previewed the "Patagonia Shirt" and have Shorts to follow but here we have our most ambitious project.
The Dakar Jacket takes its inspiration from the "Dakar Rally" and follows the "Challenge" series of Sweatshirts. The Rally is known as the most gruelling off-road race in the world and began in 1979, being run from Paris to Dakar in Senegal. It switched to South America in 2009, for security reasons, running through Chile and Argentina over a two week period. The 2011 event is actually taking place now.
The jacket is designed with the motorcyclist in mind with accessories being easily accessible to the rider. A compass is attached to the left breast pocket and can be on-show or hidden inside the pocket. (In 1982 the then Prime Ministers son, Mark Thatcher, famously got lost for 6 days. no compass?) The inner pocket has a drink pouch which is held in position by 2 velcro strips and can be released and taken out and finally a zip-on Balaclava connects to the inside of the neck collar. The collar itself also has a stored contrast colour hood. The Jacket has the waist adjusters to the outer sides, again for easy accessibility.
The detail is second to none on this piece and again only 100 of two colours will be produced. Midnight Blue and Deep Red (known as the colour of the desert). Expected delivery is April.
More full jacket pics will follow and a list of stockists. Supplies will obviously be very limited and pre-ordering may be advisable.
A second jacket in the range is in the development stage and details will be here as soon as they are available.
